To apply for a government job in Pakistan, find the official advertisement, apply online on the commission’s website or the National Job Portal, pay the fee, and submit before the closing date. Federal jobs go through FPSC or NJP. Provincial jobs go through the commission of your province. This guide covers the full process: the portals, the steps, the fees, the documents, and applying by post.
How to Apply at a Glance#
| Route | Where to apply | Who it is for | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| FPSC | fpsc.gov.pk | Federal gazetted posts | Rs 600 to Rs 3,000 by pay scale |
| NJP | njp.gov.pk | Federal ministries and departments | Free, unless the ad says otherwise |
| PPSC | ppsc.gop.pk | Punjab posts | Rs 600 (one-paper test) to Rs 1,000 (competitive exams) |
| SPSC | spsc.gov.pk | Sindh posts | PSID fee, see the ad |
| KPPSC | kppsc.gov.pk | Khyber Pakhtunkhwa posts | See the ad |
| BPSC | bpsc.gob.pk | Balochistan posts | See the ad |
| By post | Address given in the ad | Posts that accept postal applications | As the ad directs |
Each commission runs its own system, so you apply on each site separately. There is no single account that covers FPSC and the provincial commissions.
What Is the Government Job Application Process?#
A commission recruits for the government posts it advertises. It is not a job board. Always start from the commission’s own site, check the advertisement, then apply before the closing date.
There are two ways to apply. Most posts are applied for online, on the commission’s website or on the National Job Portal. Some posts, often lower grades and contract jobs advertised directly by a ministry or department, still accept applications by post. The advertisement tells you which way to use. If it says apply online, do not send a postal application. If it gives a postal address and a form, follow that route exactly.
The process is the same in outline everywhere: find the advertisement, check that you meet the qualification, age, domicile and experience rules, create an account or open the form, fill it exactly as your documents read, pay the fee if there is one, submit before the closing date, and save your tracking number.
Why Apply Only Through the Official Portal?#
A commission never asks you to pay into a personal JazzCash or Easypaisa account. Fees go only through a PSID made on the commission’s own site. Be careful with any site that asks for your CNIC and a fee to apply for you. For work abroad, never pay a private agent without checking its licence first.
Two things catch people out. Punjab uses .gop.pk and Balochistan uses .gob.pk. Both are correct. A site ending in .com or .pk alone, with “PPSC” or “FPSC” in its name, is not the commission. Always type the official address yourself or use the link in the official advertisement. Never pay for an application form, a roll number slip or a test venue. Government recruitment never charges for those.
If you have a disability, check the advertisement for a reserved quota. SPSC advertises one, and PPSC does not charge specially abled candidates a fee. Proof is usually a disability certificate or a special CNIC.
What You Need Before You Apply#
Prepare these before you open any application form. A complete documents checklist is in our separate guide, and the short version is here.
- CNIC. Your 13-digit valid CNIC number. The FPSC form asks for your CNIC issue date, so keep the card valid.
- Email and mobile number. An active email address you check regularly, and an active Pakistani mobile number. Verification codes go to both.
- Domicile. Your domicile certificate in your own name, of the district and province the post is for.
- Education record. Matric, Intermediate, Bachelor, Master or the relevant qualification, with the result date of your qualifying degree.
- Experience record. Job title, employer, start and end dates, and the experience certificate if the post asks for it.
- Photograph. A recent passport-size photograph. FPSC accepts a jpg or jpeg under 30 KB.
- Fee payment method. A bank account, ATM card or mobile banking app to pay the PSID through 1Link, where a fee applies.
Fill every form exactly as your documents read. Your name, CNIC number, date of birth and qualification details must match your documents exactly, because the form is checked against them later.
How to Apply Online on NJP#

NJP is the National Job Portal at njp.gov.pk, run by the National IT Board. It is the federal government’s official online recruitment system for ministries, divisions and public sector bodies. Registration on NJP is free. It covers federal jobs only, not provincial jobs. Punjab posts go through the Punjab Job Portal and PPSC, Sindh posts through the Sindh Job Portal and SPSC, and gazetted posts through FPSC.
- Visit njp.gov.pk and choose Candidate Signup.
- Enter your 13-digit CNIC number, an active email address and a strong password, then press Sign Up.
- Verify your account. Check your inbox, spam folder and SMS messages for the verification code. Verification must complete before you can log in and complete your profile.
- Log in with your registered CNIC number, email address and password.
- Complete your profile. The dashboard shows a profile completion score, and an incomplete profile can block you from applying. Fill in personal details, address, education, work experience, skills, training and certificates, languages and attachments, exactly as your documents read.
- Open Browse Jobs or Available Jobs and search for the post you qualify for. Each job card shows the department, job title, vacancies, pay scale, eligibility and last date.
- Open the vacancy and read the eligibility, experience and age conditions in full before applying.
- Click Apply Now, confirm the required details, and submit before the post’s closing date.
- Save the confirmation. Keep the application number and the confirmation message.
Each post on NJP has its own closing date. Late applications are not accepted. NJP itself is free, but a post advertised through a commission can carry that commission’s fee, so read the individual advertisement before applying.
NJP help lines are 051-9265411 and 051-9265062 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm), and info@njp.gov.pk. Always sign in on njp.gov.pk itself and never share your password or OTP with anyone.
How to Apply Online for an FPSC Job#
FPSC is the Federal Public Service Commission at fpsc.gov.pk. It recruits for federal ministries, departments and autonomous bodies, including the CSS examination, and for the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan. FPSC’s guidelines, updated 9 September 2025, split the process into two steps with a payment between them.
- On fpsc.gov.pk, choose Apply Online, then General Recruitment. Pick the post from the list.
- Read the requirements that appear. Only apply if you meet the qualification, age, gender, domicile and experience rules. The form only lists the domiciles and genders the post allows.
- Enter your CNIC and wait for the message that you can apply.
- Fill Step 1: name, domicile, gender, religion, test and interview centres, and the result date of your qualifying degree. Government employees also enter their DPC or NOC number.
- Press Generate PSID and Challan. You get a 16-digit PSID.
- Pay the PSID through an ATM, a mobile banking app, internet banking or any 1Link member bank branch. Use the “1Link 1Bill Invoice/Voucher” option.
- Go back to Apply Online, select the same post and enter your CNIC. The system shows your payment. Press Proceed to Step 2.
- Upload a passport-size photo in jpg or jpeg under 30 KB, then add your personal details, education and experience.
- Tick the undertaking and press Submit Your Application. Save the Tracking ID and print the application.
Paying the fee does not submit your application. FPSC says clearly that you must finish Step 2 and see the message “Your Application has been submitted successfully”. After final submission, you can edit an FPSC application only once, and only before the closing date.
How to Apply for Provincial Commission Jobs#
Provincial jobs go through the commission of your province. Each province runs its own process, fees and exams.
| Commission | Official site | How to apply | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Punjab (PPSC) | ppsc.gop.pk | Apply online on the same site | Rs 600 for a one-paper test, Rs 1,000 for competitive exams, paid by PSID |
| Sindh (SPSC) | spsc.gov.pk | Applications online only, with a PSID fee | PSID fee, see the ad |
| Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPPSC) | kppsc.gov.pk | Make an online account at apply.kppsc.gov.pk | See the ad |
| Balochistan (BPSC) | bpsc.gob.pk | Apply at bpsc.gob.pk/apply_now | See the ad |
| Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK PSC) | ajkpsc.gov.pk | Fill Application Online link on the site | See the ad |
PPSC uploads roll number slips for all candidates together. SPSC also runs the provincial civil service exam, CCE 2026, known as PMS Sindh. KPPSC publishes video guides on its site, and lists office numbers 091-9211795, 091-9213827 and 091-9214131. BPSC has a roll number search by CNIC and a PDF guide on applying online. For Gilgit-Baltistan, FPSC recruits for the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan as well as the federal government, so check FPSC’s advertisements for GB posts.
Police constable posts are recruited by each province’s police, not by a commission. For those, apply through your province’s police recruitment route.
How to Apply by Post#
Some posts still accept applications by post, usually lower grades and contract jobs advertised directly by a ministry or department. The advertisement tells you the postal address, the form to use and the fee. Follow it exactly.
- Read the advertisement and note the postal address, the closing date and the fee.
- Download the application form from the address given in the ad, or get it from the office named there.
- Fill the form in your own hand or as the ad directs, exactly as your documents read.
- Attach the documents the ad lists, usually attested copies of your CNIC, domicile, educational certificates and photographs, and the experience certificate if the post asks for it.
- Pay the fee as the ad directs and attach the payment proof, usually a bank challan or bank draft.
- Send the application by registered post or courier to the address in the ad, well before the closing date. Keep the postal receipt and a photocopy of the full application.
- Keep the receipt safe. It is your proof that the application was sent on time.
Postal applications that arrive after the closing date are not accepted, even if they were posted before it. Apply at least a few days early so a postal delay does not disqualify you.

Fees and Payment#
FPSC fees, from its guidelines, are Rs 600 for BS-16 and BS-17, Rs 1,500 for BS-18, Rs 2,500 for BS-19 and Rs 3,000 for BS-20 and above. PPSC charges Rs 600 for a one-paper test and Rs 1,000 for competitive exams. NJP registration is free.
The fee is paid through a PSID, a payment slip ID generated on the commission’s own site. Each post needs its own PSID, and the CNIC stays the same. A PSID is valid until the closing date of the advertisement. The fee is not refundable.
The old TR-6 challan, cheques, bank drafts and pay orders are not accepted by FPSC. Many older guides still tell you to deposit a challan at a National Bank branch. That method has ended. Pay the PSID through 1Link. If you paid but the system does not move forward, contact the bank or app you paid through.
Our separate PSID guide explains the payment in full, including paying through a bank, an ATM, Easypaisa, JazzCash and UPaisa.
How to Check Your Application After You Apply#
After you submit, save your Tracking ID. FPSC shows it after Step 2, and NJP shows a confirmation with your application number. You need it to check your application status and to download your roll number slip.
A few days before the test, download your roll number slip from the testing agency or commission website and check your test centre. Take your original CNIC and the roll number slip to the test. After the test, the commission shortlists candidates and calls them for interview and document checking. Our documents checklist covers what to carry for that stage, and the appointing department checks your documents, character and medical fitness again after selection. That is when the police character certificate comes in.
Keep checking your email and the portal for test and interview schedules. The commission does not send a paper letter for every stage.
Lost or Wrong Application#
If you paid the fee but the application is not submitted, finish Step 2. Paying the fee does not submit your FPSC application. Go back to Apply Online, select the same post, enter your CNIC, and complete Step 2 until you see “Your Application has been submitted successfully”.
If you paid but the system does not show the payment, contact the bank or app you paid through. Keep the payment receipt and the PSID number. Do not pay a second time before checking, because the fee is not refundable.
If you made a mistake in the form, correct it before the closing date. FPSC allows one edit after final submission, and only before the closing date. After the closing date, the form cannot be changed.
If you applied on the wrong commission site, apply again on the correct one. Each commission runs its own system, and an application on the wrong site does not count. Federal posts go to FPSC or NJP. Provincial posts go to the commission of your province.
If you lost your Tracking ID, use the portal’s tracking or helpline. FPSC and NJP both let you check an application with your CNIC. Keep the Tracking ID and a printout of the submitted form in a safe place.
Common Mistakes to Avoid#
- Applying after the closing date. Late applications are not accepted, online or by post.
- Paying an agent or a private account. A commission never asks you to pay into a personal JazzCash or Easypaisa account. Fees go only through a PSID made on the commission’s own site.
- Using a fake commission site. Punjab uses .gop.pk and Balochistan uses .gob.pk. A site ending in .com or .pk alone, with “PPSC” or “FPSC” in its name, is not the commission.
- Paying the fee and thinking the application is submitted. FPSC needs Step 2 finished. Without it, there is no application.
- Paying with the old TR-6 challan. FPSC does not accept it. Pay the PSID through 1Link.
- Leaving the profile incomplete on NJP. An incomplete profile can block you from applying. Complete every section before you open a vacancy.
- Entering details that do not match your documents. Your name, CNIC number and qualification details must match your documents exactly.
- Applying on the wrong site. Federal posts go to FPSC or NJP. Provincial posts go to the commission of your province. An application on the wrong site does not count.
- Waiting until the last day. Portals slow down and postal deliveries slip. Apply at least a few days before the closing date.
- Not saving the Tracking ID or confirmation. Without it, you cannot check your application or download your roll number slip.
